Top 7 Email Tips

Email is possibly the most widely used application on the internet.  Certainly, it has proven to be a very efficient and effective communication (and selling) tool.  Used wisely and correctly, email can greatly enhance communication between you and your customers (and prospects).

The following tips will likely make any user's experience with email much more productive.

1. Keep the length of the message short
Shorter email messages are more likely to be completely read than long messages. If a longer message is necessary, consider sending the first paragraph with a link to the complete article (therefore driving readers to your site)

2. Do not include attachments
Attachments often get blocked by the SPAM catchers.  Unless it is absolutely necessary, simply keep away from attachments when sending bulk email.

3. Use a clear, concise and descriptive subject line
Think about how you receive emails. Think about how your email is going to be viewed when it arrives at its destination.  Most email users see only the address of the sender and the subject line of incoming email. A compelling Subject line may be the difference between your email being opened and not.

4. Be  personal!
When you are sending email to someone, make sure that it comes from a real person (not from “info@” or “sales@”).  If you need to, simply create an “alias” (ie make someone up!).

5. Be more personal!
Personalise your email.  Use the recipient's name in the email - you certainly won't get much of a response if you send a bunch of emails to the " This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it "!

6. Check your spelling and grammar
This is so basic, but often overlooked! Make sure to use the tools that are available to you, like the spell checker that it now built into just about every email product available!

7. Don’t use BCC: (and certainly never use CC:)
There are times when you will need to copy and email (or even bcc:) an email (usually within the work environment).  However, to send bulk emails using either of these methods is (a) completely unnecessary as there are tons of free tools available, and (b) bad practice.  If you want to learn more, visit our sister company, Email-Marketing.ie
